Reflecting on 30

Dear Friends,

As we have celebrated the 30th anniversary of SMILES this past year, we have given count to many things. We have calculated that SMILES has served more than 2,237 individuals in 30 years, and that we have benefitted from hundreds of thousands of generous volunteer hours. More than 139 therapy horses have called SMILES home, and have given partnership to those clients who sought the benefits of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies at SMILES during the past three decades.

The programs of SMILES improve the lives and living skills of people with special needs.  Families seek these benefits for their children and loved ones.  Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies are the chosen approach of many families who desire to see these improvements. For more than 30 years, the SMILES program has helped to create improvements within some of the areas of life that we count the most critical for our clients:  communication, independence, mobility, and socialization.

But counting these benefits, counting the goals that have been realized, the first words spoken, the first steps taken, and first hugs offered, is a much more difficult task.  We can only imagine the numbers, and feel proud and honored to have been counted as a part of all these success stories.

With your continued support, we can continue to share these success stories and to provide these life changing and long term benefits. Your support counts. Your time counts. Your gift counts.

On behalf of the clients we serve, and their families who support them, I thank you for your past support.  I hope we can count on your friendship in the next 30 years!

Looking forward to future SMILES,

Gay Stran
