Clients and Horses Shine with Success 2017 SUPERSTAR Student Horse Show
Riding into the Spotlight
On Saturday, September 23th, SMILES was host to the fifth annual "Superstar Student Show" and Open House. This special free admission event began at 10 am and was an opportunity for the clients of SMILES to showcase their accomplishments while also raising funds for the organization. Student participants earned pledges toward the SMILES Ridership Fund to earn a place in the show and together they raised over $8000!
Participants showed in several classes, highlighting the gains they have made through Therapeutic Riding. The "Superstar" experience includes judging and the awarding of trophies and ribbons. Guest judge for this year's event was Katey McClymont, Accomplished Equestrian and PATH certified Registered Instructor.
Many thanks also to those friends who chose to join the "Superstar Fan Club". Your support provided a very personalized message of pride and encouragement, to our talented riders!
SMILES Riders Show Off Their Skills
Therapeutic Riding provides many diverse benefits to riders. SMILES riders report improvements in communication skills, enhanced hand-eye coordination, balance and social interaction. Horses offer a platform on which self-control, confidence, responsibility, self-esteem and positive behaviors can be built. The unique therapeutic movement delivered by the horse positively impacts the rider’s muscle tone, balance, strength, and flexibility.
